gasket totes
gasket totes:
Gasket totes are a somewhat newer product. They've got thicker walls, angling on the sides to improve weight
capacity both internally and when stacked, thicker lids, good snap-latches, and feature a foam insert around
the perimeter on the lid that improves the seal. They're not entirely air-tight, but do a good job protecting
from dust, humidity, rain, and even insects. The latches have a nice positive snap to them when you lock
them down, and almost never come open by themselves.
Due to the shape of the side wall bracing, they hold a little less than similar size totes, and take up more
space vertically when stacking empty totes, but it's usually worth it for all the features they offer. There
are small (7.5/12 qt) versions available, but for smaller I prefer the simpler boxes that take up less space.
I get my gasket totes at Walmart, either in-store or ship-to-home. If you choose to ship to home, order a
few more than you think you'll need. If you get them, you'll have spares. (and you'll probably find a use for
them pretty fast) But you should expect to lose a few in shipping, as the clear plastic can shatter if you
drop the box, and Walmart doesn't ship them with ant protective packing. I just contact Walmart for a partial
refund when the botom one in the box gets shattered etc. They've been very good about refunding ship damage.
I use mostly the 20 and 54 qt totes for my small and large needs, plus a few 54's. If you need several, they're
a better deal if you buy them in quantity packs.
